Small or large steps: The main thing is move AS ONE

Dear readers,

We want to drive change forward. This does not usually happen in a straight line; sometimes we have to accept going backwards or sideways. But if we bring together apparent opposites, develop continuously and together, we can bring about change and find a productive way of dealing with the increasing complexity of the world around us.

move AS ON is our compass for this change. It should succeed in the long term and point the way forward. That is why we are focusing on many smaller, joint steps to pave the way for developments that will have a systemic impact in the RWTÜV Group and provide a stable foundation for strategically effective growth.

We have increased the number of staff at Group headquarters in order to provide you with even more effective support. And in line with move AS ONE, we are working on various training and further education formats to create dynamism and common ground. We are also focusing on the development of specialists with our RWTÜV Foundation who will be able to strengthen us, our customers or even just potential customers in the future in a well-trained and knowledgeable manner.

Yours with dynamic greetings

Ihre Thomas Biedermann und Dr. Fabian Fechner

Strengthened

The team at the RWTÜV Group headquarters in Essen is starting the new year with reinforcements. Firstly, Evelyn Beck has joined the team. With several years of professional experience as a lawyer in employment law, she can contribute valuable specialist knowledge and strategic expertise: “I am looking forward to new legal challenges and the opportunity to play an active role in implementing the vision of the RWTÜV Group. It is precisely this combination that makes the role particularly exciting!” says the in-house lawyer, welcoming her new role.

Group CEO Thomas Biedermann is relieved: “The legal requirements in our Group demand enormous expertise. Evelyn brings precisely the necessary knowledge to enable us to concentrate on the successful further development of the RWTÜV Group.”

The second new colleague is Anika Corte, who brings valuable skills in the areas of general management, entrepreneurship, innovation and transformation after successfully completing a Master's degree in Management and Economics at Ruhr University Bochum. She will be joining the controlling team and innovation management in Essen.

Dr. Fabian Fechner comments on the new appointments: “We are very pleased to have found such well-suited and excellently qualified employees in this tight labour market situation! We look forward to working with our new colleagues!”

Encouraged

Since last year, the RWTÜV Foundation has been a partner of the UDE University Duisburg-Essen in supporting a total of twelve students, including civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and computer scientists. At this year's scholarship ceremony on 23 January 2025, a total of 300 participants from the entire program, including from Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe, came together for a large exchange and talked about studying, life goals, building bridges, entering the automotive industry and much more.

Thomas Biedermann was present on behalf of RWTÜV as the foundation's chairman and offered a wide range of support, be it in choosing a career, looking for internships, working student jobs or bachelor's and master's theses.
The inspiring day and successful evening was rounded off with a varied buffet and musical accompaniment from the Folkwang Quartet.

Qualified

Since October 2022, the RWTÜV Foundation, together with the NRW Ministry of Economic Affairs and patron Mona Neubaur, has been supporting the Eurobits Women Academy, which has set itself the task of increasing the proportion of women in cybersecurity. Currently the training program which is meant to inspire and empower women for a position in the industry, is being tested by 20 female career changers in two groups.

On January 25, the participants in the second trial phase met for one of their joint workshops, which are held roughly two-thirds online and one-third in person, at the RWTÜV Group headquarters in Essen. Module 5 of the training series dealt with IT security techniques such as network management, cryptography and authentication methods. Eurobits lecturer and board member Dr. Reiner Baumgart, who is also part of the RWTÜV#Innovation.Network, gave a presentation on the history of cryptography and provided in-depth feedback on the participants' workshop contributions, which they had prepared as homework in teams.

Host RWTÜV Foundation Board Member Thomas Biedermann pointed out the necessity of this commitment in his speech: “We are confronted with constantly growing digital threats, and the demand for suitably qualified personnel on the labor market is high. This practical approach teaches key IT security skills to female career changers, which opens up great career opportunities and is urgently needed!”
Project manager Jana Bodenstedt explains: “We have developed a concept consisting of self-learning content, teamwork and online as well as offline workshops that imparts the necessary knowledge quickly and compactly. With lots of practical insights and individual mentoring, we accompany interested women on their way to an exciting career in cyber security!”

Compliant

From August 1, 2025, manufacturers of devices with built-in radio technology for the European market must fully comply with the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Delegated Act. The directive is intended to ensure that radio equipment in the EU is safe, compatible and efficient, while also promoting innovation and sustainability in the field of radio technology.

RWTÜV subsidiary cetecom advanced has developed a suitable range of services for this purpose: If potential cyber attacks on digitally networked applications and components of mobile or static IoT devices are causing you headaches, the company offers a remedy with comprehensive IoT cybersecurity services. The IoT cybersecurity of products is checked and verified and the current security status of networked devices is verified. How secure is the application, how robust is its design, do any integrated safeguards work against attacks on data integrity and authenticity during communication processes? cetecom advanced experts with many years of IoT experience in the regulatory certification of products with wireless technologies take care of all these questions and the testing for all common regulations (CEN/CENELEC, certification according to RED, ETSI, CTIA, CSC label, etc.).
